ABSTRACT

“High Performance Buildings” is a buzzword in today’s industry.  But what does that really mean?  This presentation will cover what some of the characteristics of a HPB are, what pitfalls to look out for when designing (or commissioning) a HPB, common misconceptions about HPB, and some examples of successful projects.

BIO

Bethany Beers is the Director of Sustainable Services for Farnsworth Group and has ten years of experience in commissioning, LEED consultation, and commercial facility energy audits.  With a background in Architectural Engineering, Bethany can look at a project from a holistic point of view. Her engineering experience includes HVAC system design, energy studies, LEED design review, and calculations involved with both design and energy services.  Bethany understands the importance of working closely with an owner in order to develop a successful product. She has worked with several multiple-facility clients who look to incorporate sustainable practices into their building procurement procedures and design standards. Bethany looks for practical and affordable solutions for the Owner, as well as determines measurable criteria for defining a successful project.  

Bethany has demonstrated her dedication to the engineering field through participation in both Pikes Peak and Rocky Mountain ASHRAE Chapters, and is a past president of the Pikes Peak Chapter.  Bethany is also active with the USGBC Colorado Chapter, serving in the past on Education and Outreach Committee at the state level, and as the Founding Chair of the Southern Colorado Branch.  Bethany is currently serving as the Co-Chair for the Project Activities Committee with ClimateWise.
