Electrification in the Building Code – Issues and Options

This presentation will be focused on the current trend toward modifying the building code to encourage, or require, electrification of buildings.  Why do people want to do this?  Is it a good idea?  What are the issues that will come up and what are some options to resolve them?

    Roger Hedrick, BEMP, LEED AP

Roger is a Principal Engineer in the Codes and Standard Group at NORESCO in Boulder.  Roger works with state and local jurisdictions to update their energy, ventilation, and green building codes.  He also works with them to improve the compliance and enforcement process.  Roger has been active in the development of ASHRAE standards for over 25 years.  Among other things, he served as the Chair of SSPC 62.1 for 5 years, and recently completed a 3 year stint as chair of SSPC 189.1, which provides the technical requirements in the International Green Construction Code.  Roger has also worked on the development and updating of multiple editions of the User’s Manuals for ASHRAE Standards 62.1, 62.2 and 90.1.
